Over the years Rotary Campbelltown have worked on a variety of fundraising projects. The Mardi Gras was a successful event that ran for a substantial amount of time over the 1960's to 1980's.
The Mardi Gras was adopted as a club project in 1967 by the Community Service Committee chaired by the Late Roy Grosvenor.
The object of the project was to enable community not for profit organizations to raise funds by participating in a carnival type event organized by our club.
Campbelltown Oval was hired along with a series of marquees and accepted registrations from local organisations to participate.
Oval events were organised, the Country Fire Service gave demonstrations, marching girls strutted their stuff and in later years it became a day/night event with fireworks and hot air balloons.
In the first year the participating organizations raised about $5000 in total.
The event lasted for 18 years before being cancelled in 1985 -6.
