The school’s Government support is meagre due to their small enrolment of 180 pupils.
Our club became involved in 2015, when we proposed to do a major renovation of the school. However, Cyclone Winston had other ideas and we were unable to complete this project with a proposed $60,000 expenditure.
In 2019, our club provided funds to renovate 2 timber classrooms that were built in 1939 and had been ruined by termite activity. They are being used as a schoolroom and a kindergarten. The school was unable to afford furniture for the rooms and early this year we were able provide furniture to the value of AUD$2,000.
We have had excellent support from Ms. Teresa Ali, Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Lautoka and the school and have been kept updated as the arrangements have proceeded.
This is a poor neighbouring country, deserving and appreciative of our assistance.
