Rotary Sponsors Zoo Visits for Vulnerable Women and Children
The Rotary Club of Campbelltown donated $5,000 to the Adelaide Zoo. See below how it assisted in connecting people with nature.
On the 15th of January 2021 we were able to provide a Twilight Zoo tour for 31 women and children from Women’s Safety Services who had experienced domestic and family violence. The group that attended on the evening had a wonderful time and sent lots of thanks to the club for making it possible. For many of the families and single women, it was the first time that they were able to spend recreational time with their children in months. Several of the women that attended were from Culturally and Linguistically diverse backgrounds and despite being in Australia for years had never had the opportunity or finances to attend the zoo.
The evening in question was a beautiful cool evening. All attending enjoyed the lovely, packed snacks and sandwiches made by Club members. They were so grateful for the care that had been put into making the individual food packages, which included cakes, fruit and sandwiches that also included vegetarian options. Transport was made available by City of Campbelltown Council and the Rotary Club of Campbelltown.
On the 22nd of January 2021 we were also able to provide a similar experience to 41 adults and 53 children from Bushfire affected families, and 38 adults, 46 children and 10 carers from Australian Migrant Resource Centre. It was a great attraction, especially for the children. The families who took part in the event all had a wonderful time, and once again they were blessed with a beautiful cool evening.
Letters of thanks were received from the above organisations, extending their appreciation of the valuable donation made by the Rotary Club of Campbelltown, making it possible to support a family outing to the Adelaide Zoo by people who are affected by the current challenging and uncertain circumstances.
